MEET ANDREA EATHERLY
I never thought I’d work professionally in travel—because travel was always my escape from professional life. For 15 years, I did the corporate grind working in sales and operations at tech firms, where I saved up all my measly PTO for vacation, fitting in my own travels where I could between family obligations and the requisite bachelorette trips.
It was a “successful” career, but ultimately an unfulfilling one … and I eventually realized that 1 or 2 weeks a year exploring on my own terms was not enough. So, I took a sabbatical and traveled the world for an entire year. I hiked with guides through the wilds of Patagonia, sipped crisp whites on the coast of New Zealand, explored fragrant food markets in Vietnam, and checked off 30 countries and six continents (I’m still coming for you, Antarctica!).
This wasn’t a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants backpacking kind of trip, either. Nope; I began planning my year of travel nearly a year out, meticulously designing each leg of my journey. Doing so allowed me to explore more deeply, and experience incredible moments only made possible with some pre-planning—like seeing Japan in bloom during cherry blossom season, or ringing in the New Year in raucous Sydney, Australia.
I had every intention of returning home from my “gap year” and starting back in the tech world. But two things happened that changed my course, forever:
1) I realized that, hey, I’m actually really good at this whole travel planning thing—as I was able to draw on my tech background and Type-A nature to keep an entire year of travel streamlined.
And 2) I met a fascinating couple while on safari in South Africa. As we tracked lions and rhinos on our game drives together, I learned that they were the owners of a global luxury travel agency. One thing led to another, and once back home I joined their agency as an independent consultant, leveraging my extensive personal travel experience—I’ve now traveled to more than 70 countries (and counting!)—to craft immersive travel itineraries for my clients.
I never looked back. Today, I’m thrilled to be able to help my clients create lifetime memories through tailored travel experiences that make the logistics effortless—and the exploration deeply authentic.
